The Pearls of Pearl Street 30

Extinction Rebellion Cardiff Arts came and stencilled these figures on the wall in protest at the new incinerator planned locally in CF3. Splott already has one incinerator !

There are very high poor quality air levels in and around Splott, Adamsdown and Tremorfa. These areas of Cardiff are more typically working class and culturally diverse.

With Cardiff ranked 4th worst in the UK for air pollution and the poorer parts of town effected to a greater extent. The residents of CF3 are campaigning against a 2nd incinerator within their postcode. There is already one within the residential district that looms over the landscape and blots the skyline.

With evidence clearly showing the reduction in years of average life expectancy due to poor air quality XR Cardiff Arts have been busy cutting stencils to raise awareness and engage the local community as there are 10 days left to get objections in.

Expect more murals to pop up over the city. If you have a wall that needs decorating then contact extinction rebellion cardiff arts on Facebook

The Pearls of Pearl Street 29

I am in total awe of poet, musician, composer, educator and wonderful being Eugene Skeef who has been posting a poem every single day of the lock down. The Pearls of Pearl Street 26 was also a poem of love by Eugene. I had a lovely conversation with neighbour Jazz as he was passing by and he promises me that sometime he will post one of his poems into my letterbox for the wall. Meanwhile here is his thoughtful wish

Two themes close to my heart. Having been unable to participate in the demonstrations and actions that have been happening across the UK during September, I thought to contribute and support the cause by using my wall as a platform for the images.

Not surprisingly the subject matter has generated a lot of positive responses and discussions but also some angry abuse by passers by who seem to want to vent from across the road and not engage in any back and forth of ideas or conversation.

Climate Change and Racism are inextricably linked and I hope that this wall will keep them at the forefront of our awareness as we negotiate this world as it goes through various states of lock down

As lock down continues and we live through this extraordinary time I thought to put up dancing couples around a May Pole as a colorful antidote to the state of the world. Yes I know May and Calan Mai has passed but then I thought to have the word peace in all the different languages of the couples. These are the people who gathered to live in Splott from all parts of the world. On the left starting from nearest the door we have Somalia, East Africa, Scotland, Ireland then on the other side we have Wales, Poland, India, Brittany and Syria.  Just a hint at all the communities that live side by side.

So I do believe Splott now has its own Wall of Peace. I hope it will inspire us all to make a better world when we are able to emerge out of our isolated lock down state.
